Arkansas Plat House to be on HGTV

The Arkansas Plat House will be making an appearance on HGTV's program Beyond the Box. The episode covers several different house projects, but the Plat House no doubt is the segment described as "a couple who found almost everything used to build their home through Internet shopping." The first airing of the show will be September 17, 2008 9:00 PM ET/PT with several other airings to follow. See the entire scheudle at the HGTV site. And for anybody who did not see the link to the Plat House catalog page in the first line of this entry I'll give you another link right here: CLICK HERE to go to the PLAT HOUSE catalog page! In case you missed the sentence before this one, that link goes directly to the catalog page for the PLAT HOUSE, the one from TV!

  2. We are building a plat house in Texas and this house was what we have built off of. Looking forward to seeing it on HGTV. Of course ours looks different, built for the hot Texas heat with stucco siding and metal roofing.
Will be adding our photos to LamDesign site soon.

  4. Yes, well its true, but there are several issues in play here, no. 1 is northwest Arkansas = low labor cost, and no.2 owner GC project themselves eliminates overhead and profit...your results may vary.

  6. I saw the house on HGTV. I LOVED it! I would love to build it if I could talk my husband into it! It is perfect with all the light from the many windows. I also loved the furnishings - so simple. A true Scandinavian masterpiece!

  8. Saw the show, love the show. They said that the owners bought the plans online for $800, yet the plat house plans on your site are $4,750! Whats the deal with that?

  9. Yes, but there is no way to explain this without telling you the entire history.

They were one of the first customers to buy construction prints, and at the time I was running an introductry special for $1000, which was 300 less than the regular pricing of 1500.

1500 had been the price of the plans up until this past summer when we had a significant price increase which was introduced in the following blog post:
    price increase post

As I recall, what they actually paid way back then was 800 because of an error in editing my website. Before my site launched I had been considering making the Design Prints credited against Construction Print purchases. In the end I decided not to do this as it would be hard for me to set up purchase buttons with variable pricing like this. However I missed correcting that information on one of my web pages before it launched and they pointed it out when they were making their purchase. So I honored it for them and deducted the cost of the $200 Design Prints which they had already purchased, and corrected the error on the web page.

So they were only available for $1000 for a short time several years ago, and that discount to $800 I'm afraid was never really offered. And that's the deal with that!

  10. I love your designs and enjoyed seeing this on HGTV. Anyone using your plans in the Seattle area/Northwest US?? We don't know how to get started on this - do you do builder reccomends, etc?

  11. No construction print buyers from WA in my customer list yet. I don't have any first hand experience with builders in the Seattle region, but LiveModern regional forums would be a good place to start.
