I've not priced any project both ways, not gotten info back from a customer who has. The Vermont Plat House was initially going to have the roof done with SIPs - just the roof, but it ended up adding 10% to the job and they went with conventional framing. In that case the panels were going to be supported by beams rather than rafters which also added significantly to the cost. The sheathing is usually oriented strand board (OSB).
